Why Support Cal Poly Animal Science?

Cal Poly Animal Science Department boasts one of the most comprehensive hands-on, Learn by Doing programs in the United States, providing learning opportunities to develop the next generation of leaders in agriculture on the local, state and national level. While the state provides some funds to make this possible, private support drives much of the Animal Science’s Learn by Doing endeavors and research.

Past Support

Because of past generosity from donors, the Animal Science Department has been able to build its $5.5 million Animal Nutrition Center and $4.5 million Beef Center. Additionally, because of community, alumni and industry support, student education has been enriched with equipment, software, research funding, facility renovations and animals for use in enterprise classes, nutrition research and teaching. Donations have also helped student teams compete regionally and nationally, and have helped events like the Western Bonanza Junior Livestock Show be a success. Thank you so much for partnering with us.

Ongoing Support

The following are current ways your donation can help educate tomorrow’s leaders:

Animal Science Facilities Fund

—provides for the construction and equipping of new facilities, such as the Meat Processing Center.

Excellence in Animal Science

—provides funding to enhance student education (student work-experience support, new equipment, lab materials, student travel to conferences, facilities enhancement, etc.)

Equine Center Fund

—provides funding to upgrade existing facilities, purchase equipment, support horse classes, etc.

Student Teams

—helps reduce training and travel costs for team members to compete regionally and nationally (includes Livestock Judging Team, Equine Judging Team, Equestrian Team and Dressage Team).
