Steve Soderstrom joined the Animal Science Department in 2007 as the manager of the Poultry Center. He earned his bachelor’s degree in animal science from Cal Poly in 1982 and has enjoyed living in the San Luis Obispo area since.

As manager of the Poultry Center, Soderstrom is responsible for the feed and care of the unit’s 6,000 broiler chicks and 5,000 laying hens, overseeing building and equipment maintenance, as well as maintenance for the poultry’s research facilities. Additionally, Soderstrom oversees all egg sales and deliveries.

Soderstrom has sat on the executive board of the Morro Bay National Estuary, been chairman of the Edna Farm Center, director with Farm Bureau and president of the Aggie Backers, a booster club for the San Luis Obispo High School FFA. He has also received an award for environmental stewardship.
