Robert Spiller is the poultry specialist for the Animal Science Department. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Cal Poly and his doctorate in poultry nutrition at Oregon State University.
Spiller manages the Cal Poly poultry center and teaches most of the poultry science courses. He works closely with the commercial poultry industry in California, as well as providing consulting services to the industry (including cage free). His experience consulting spans from production and bird health to processing and egg distribution.
Spiller created the egg distribution infrastructure for the Cal Poly Poultry Center. Because of this infrastructure, Cal Poly eggs are sold to local restaurants and grocery stores. Spiller also acts as adviser to the poultry center enterprise projects and is the adviser to Cal Poly’s Poultry Club.
Professional memberships include Pacific Egg and Poultry Association and Poultry Science Association. Dr. Spiller holds positions on the Student Advisory Committee and Research Evaluation Committee within the Pacific Egg and Poultry Association.
