Bill Plummer is the reproductive physiologist for the Animal Science Department. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in animal science at North Carolina State University and earned his doctorate degree in animal science at Utah State University.

Plummer’s motto, “If it is mammalian and reproduces, I'm interested," is evident in his research, which varies from the study of mice to elephants. His current research involves investigating the fertility of individual sperm. Recent research includes attempts to increase conception rates at the time of artificial insemination and studies of abnormal sperm morphology. Plummer teaches in the areas of embryology, embryo manipulation and biotechnological applications. He teaches upper division reproductive physiology courses, an undergraduate seminar and undergraduate research.

Additionally, Plummer performs reproductive soundness exams on all bulls brought to the Cal Poly Bull Test and on all of the bulls managed by the department. Plummer is co-adviser to the Veterinary Science Club and occasionally sits on the UC Davis Veterinary School Admissions Advisory Committee. Additionally, Plummer is advisor to the professional fraternity Alpha Zeta.
