Dr. Staniec grew up on a brood mare farm in middle Tennessee. She attended Auburn University, earning a bachelor’s degree in zoology in 1993 and a doctorate of veterinary medicine in 1996. After graduating, she accepted a job at the mixed animal hospital in San Luis Obispo. Her interest there was in equine reproduction.
She has spent the last 16 years focused more on small animal medicine and practiced part-time at a local emergency clinic. Her last career opportunity exposed her to exotic companion animals such as birds, reptiles, and small mammal pocket pets.
Dr. Staniec is currently a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the California Veterinary Medical Association, the Mid-Coast Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Association of Public Health Veterinarians. She has also served as secretary for the Mid-Coast Veterinary Medical Association.
When not working as a veterinarian or mother of three, she enjoys triathlons, half marathons, trail riding, reading and travel.
