Dr. Beckett specializes in Beef cattle production. In addition to teaching Market Beef Production (ASCI 141), he teaches Domestic Animal Endocrinology (ASCI 405) and Spreadsheet Analysis (ASCI 450). Another component of Dr. Beckett's responsibility at Cal Poly is serving as the livestock production specialist at Cal Poly's Swanton Pacific Ranch in Davenport, CA. At the Swanton Pacific Ranch, a small cow/calf herd is maintained year round. Additionally, from February through July each year, stocker cattle are brought to the ranch from Hawaii and graze on the rangeland. This latter project is conducted as an enterprise project for students in the College of Agriculture. Finally, Dr. Beckett conducts research that is designed to pursue practices that increase productivity of beef cattle, and improve the quality of beef for consumers.
