Matt Burd wants his students to take the Cal Poly motto one step further. He said it's important for students to "learn by doing things right."
As the equine reproductive physiologist for the animal science department,
Burd teaches equine reproductive physiology, systemic physiology, equine
biomechanics and is an adviser to the equine breeding enterprise.
Burd earned a bachelor’s degree in bacteriology from the University
of Wisconsin, a master’s degree in marine science from San Jose State
University’s Moss Landing Marine Lab, and then he graduated from
the University of California at Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in
1996. He opened an equine veterinarian clinic on the Big Island of Hawaii
and later worked for Santa Lucia Farm, a full service cutting horse breeding
and foaling facility in Santa Ynez, Calif.
As a professor Burd strives to expose students to current and future reproductive
technologies. He said he hopes to instill in them a sense of professionalism
and an obligation to “do right” by themselves, their families
and communities. |
