Elizabeth Koutsos is an assistant professor in the animal science department,
Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo. She earned her bachelor’s
degree in animal science from the University of Maryland, College Park
her master’s degree and doctorate degree in nutrition with an immunology
minor from the University of California at Davis.
Koutsos teaches applied monogastric nutrition, physiological chemistry
of animals, immunology and avian diseases and serves as the adviser to
several commercial poultry enterprises.
Koutsos’ research focuses on nutritional modulation of immune responses
in poultry and swine, as well as basic research examining avian macrophage
function in vivo and in vitro. In addition to academic advising and serving
as a Poultry Club Adviser, Koutsos is actively involved in mentoring undergraduate
and graduate research projects.
Professional memberships include the American Association for Advancement
of Science, American Society of Nutritional Sciences, Comparative Nutrition
Society, Golden Key National Honor Society, and Poultry Science Association.
