When Joel Judge graduated from Cal Poly with a bachelor’s degree
in agribusiness and animal science he didn’t plan to someday be a
teacher. But he returned to the academic world after 12 years working in
the farming and ranching industries.
As an instructor, Judge sets out to enhance problem-solving and leadership
skills in animal science students. He said it is his goal to develop in
students the ability to analyze situations and acclimate to an environment.
He enjoys teaching and is considered a mentor, a counselor and a friend
by his many students. He values enterprises for the learning experience
they offer students.
Judge worked as manager of Sweetwater Cattle Company, located in the Los
Banos, Calif. area and then as operation manager for Vintage Angus where
he also managed the company’s bull sale and was in charge of marketing,
before returning to Cal Poly.
Besides teaching ASCI 221, introduction to beef production, and ASCI 304,
animal breeding, Judge is the adviser to the Escuela Ranch Cow-Calf Enterprise
and co-adviser to the Bull Test Enterprise.
Judge is a member of the California Angus Association, the American Angus
Association, the California Cattlemen’s Association and the National
Cattlemen’s Beef Association. |
