Pigs in a row Sow drinking
Research in Dr. Pettey’s lab focuses on mineral nutrition of pigs and poultry as well as the environmental effects of confinement livestock production.

Cal Poly recently purchased 12 stainless steel metabolism crates to conduct experiments in nutrient digestibility in swine.  Additionally, a new two-room nursery/grower building at the Swine Center will allow for growth studies to be conducted. Each room will contain 14 pens, equipped with stainless steel self-feeders and an automatic cup waterer.  Nutritional research projects are used for graduate students to conduct thesis projects and for animal science undergraduates to conduct senior projects.
