The Cal Poly Animal Science Department offers students unique opportunities to participate in events rarely, if ever, offered to undergraduate students. Animal science students are able to observe and assist with large animal exams and treatments and can make rounds with campus veterinarians on a weekly basis, observing and treating all species on campus. Students also have the opportunity to work at the student-run vet clinic. Undergraduates learn how to order pharmaceuticals, keep records and manage accounts. Cal Poly Veterinary Clinic hosts "Dog Days," low cost physical exams for companion
animals. Students perform physical exams, blood work and urinalysis. Students can also participate in a variety of enterprise projects. Cal Poly students preparing for a degree in veterinary medicine are provided the unique opportunity of hands-on experience. When applying to veterinary school, this experience provides students with a distinct advantage.
