Poultry Enterprises

All poultry enterprises allow students the opportunity to manage commercial poultry operations. Students manage all aspects of the operation. These enterprises start periodically throughout the year, for information contact Dr. Robert Spiller, Dr. Elizabeth Koutsos, or the Poultry Unit Manager. Information regarding enterprise opportunities will be posted at the Poultry Unit.

Laying Hens

Hens eatingThis enterprise runs every quarter and lasts the duration of the quarter. Students are in charge of every aspect of a laying hen operation, including animal care, egg collection, processing and distribution. This is a great opportunity for new students, and experienced students have the opportunity to manage the enterprise. Students may participate in multiple enterprises.

Replacement Pullets

This enterprise is offered up to twice per year. Students will raise replacement pullets to enter Cal Poly's laying hen flock.

Broilers

Barn full of hensThis enterprise runs every quarter and lasts for the duration of the quarter. Students are in charge of every aspect of a broiler grow-out operation, including animal care, maintaining environmental conditions and preparing animals for market. This is a great opportunity for new students, and experienced students have the opportunity to manage the enterprise. Students may participate in multiple enterprises.

This enterprise runs every quarter and lasts for the duration of the quarter. Students are in charge of every aspect of game bird production, including breeder and hatchery management, and care of growing quail. This is a great opportunity for new students, and experienced students have the opportunity to manage the enterprise. Students may participate in multiple enterprises.
