Dr. Jennifer Staniec joined the Animal Science Department in January 2014 to teach Companion Animal Science (ASCI 227). Since then, she has added Technical Veterinary Skills (ASCI 310) to her teaching opportunities. At the 2014 and 2015 FFA California State Finals competition hosted at Cal Poly, she stepped up as the advisor for the Veterinary Science Contest. She is also a co-advisor for the Cal Poly Vet Science Club.
Dr. Staniec grew up on a brood mare farm in middle Tennessee. She attended Auburn University for both a bachelor’s degree in Zoology in 1993 and a doctorate of veterinary medicine in 1996. After graduating, she accepted a job at the mixed animal hospital in San Luis Obispo were she had performed her externship prior to graduating. Her interest there was in equine reproduction.
She has spent the last 14 years focused more on small animal medicine and practiced part time at a local emergency clinic. Her last career opportunity exposed her to exotic companion animals such as birds, reptiles and small mammal pocket pets.
Dr. Staniec is currently a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the California Veterinary Medical Association, the Mid-Coast Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Association of Public Health Veterinarians. She has also held a position as Secretary with the Mid-Coast Veterinary Medical Association.
When not working as a veterinarian or mother of three, she enjoys triathlons, half marathons, trail riding, reading and travel.
